‘Flag Stories’
With Sleaford Museum in conjunction with Riverlight festival in 2023, that celebrated the role of volunteers in preserving local heritage as part of the festivals bigger aims of celebrating Sleaford’s local creativity and its beautiful spaces and places.
Through conversation, tea and textile techniques, we explored Sleaford Museum’s broad collection of donated items and historical artefacts. Together we shared local stories and personal experiences about our relationship to preserving the past through object archives. We printed our ideas using Lincolnshire potatoes and discussed what the role of the museum and history enables and brings to a town.
The outcomes of these conversations formed the creation of a series of fabric artworks that amplified these stories that adorned shop windows throughout the festival. Facilitated family activities also formed final outcomes including inviting individuals to contribute their own stories through printmaking and object handling sessions during the festival.
